Speaking of local candidates, I hope you’ll take a minute to go over to the website for Bill Nobles and get to know him a bit. And then help him how you can.
It’s early, yes – but Bill will be facing one of the best-funded House incumbents (not to mention the wealthiest Member of the Florida House). Hope you can pitch in. Folks in District 52 deserve better
than Rick Scott’s rubber-stamp vote in Jeff Brandes (who is supporting Texas Governor Rick Perry in the GOP presidential horse race, which says as much about Brandes as about Perry, I think).

President Obama wants to address a joint session of Congress on September 7 regarding the issue of jobs... or lack thereof. From the president's letter to Congressional leadership:
Our Nation faces unprecedented economic challenges, and millions of hardworking Americans continue to look for jobs. As I have traveled across our country this summer and spoken with our fellow Americans, I have heard a consistent message: Washington needs to put aside politics and start making decisions based on what is best for our country and not what is best for each of our parties in order to grow the economy and create jobs. We must answer this call.
Um, yeah. Let’s answer that call. Before it goes to voicemail.
Interesting political side-note that will inevitably get turned into a front-and-center note: the president is asking to go before Congress at the exact same time as the Republicans presidential candidates were
planning to have a debate at the Reagan Library in California.
Speaker Boehner has already suggested the president reschedule for the next night. This is also an inconvenient night, as it happens to be the start of football season.

Some of the principles taught:
• "Blending freedom and responsibility requires virtuous, moral and educated citizens."
• "Our inalienable human rights do not come from government leaders, but only from God."
• "Faith in God was fundamental to the founding of our country and the system provided."
Let's see, in three principles, "God" is mentioned twice (and we can figure out where they're driving from on the "virtuous" and "moral" deal)... this idea of the tea partiers as the driving force behind a Christian nation catching on with anyone yet?
It's getting creepy, gang.

Fantastic infographic on judicial appointments and nomination delays from the White House.
As you can see, Obama is not only appointing a far more diverse judicial body, he’s also being ham-strung… by politics. Yes, presidents are always ham-strung by politics. In Obama’s case, it’s clearly worse.
This is one of those big reasons we elect a president that kind of resides on the back-burner after the fact. It’s the people on the Supreme Court nominated by the president. It’s the judges on the
benches across America. It’s the staff in the agencies throughout Washington and across the country.
This is the kind of thing that could really get me outraged… except no one else gets outraged. And it’s a fine line between a me standing on the street corner holding a sign as a political activist and protestor
and as just another crazy person.
