Thanks for coming by.
As of today, this blog has been around for seven years, and it's all thanks to you. Seven years. You know, seven years is longer than I've ever held any job (oh, don't judge; I'm in the world of politics and government. We move around a lot.). The last seven years have been great, and I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog as much I've enjoyed trying to keep up with it.
I could talk a lot about the last seven years, but it's really the last year I want to take a quick look back on, because that was really your year. Kind of funny to think about now, but it was this time (or so) last year when I was giving serious consideration to stopping the blog.
It has always required a fair amount of care and feeding -- it's a lot to keep up with, even as infrequently as I post. And with a then-one year-old in the house, it was almost more a distraction than anything else. I don't want to bash the Netroots Awards any more than I already do, but one of my reasons was lack of recognition for the work I put into it.
That has changed. And I couldn't be happier.
This year, the Spencerian became a Newstex syndicated blog. I continue to get posts recognized by my friends at the Florida Progressive Coalition in the "Post of the Day" section. I'd count how many I got this year, but I'm kind of lazy. My friends at Progress Florida also honor the blog with mentions in their Best of the Blogs section every now and then.
This past summer, it was a huge deal when this blog was picked with just a handful of others to represent the best of Florida on the Washington Post political blog The Fix.
I started a blog of fiction called Clintonaut, which won a little something (here). I also just finished publishing a novel, chapter by chapter, there for your reading pleasure.
All of that -- and your continued readership -- has given the Spencerian something of a new lease on life.
I can only say thank you. Here's hoping 2012 is as great as 2011.
Which leads me to a quick note, here. I mentioned having a one year-old in the house. I don't want to be unkind to Emeline -- after all, she's as much my inspiration as anything. But she's going to be two next month, and she's got a little brother on the way. Finn will be here around the end of April, and there is much to be done around the house prepping for his arrival.
I now have the advantage of having been to this rodeo before. It's a lot of work. Work I look forward to, work I want to do -- but work, nonetheless. Between now and a couple of months after he's born, posting may lighten up around here.
I'm sorry for that -- I really am. But Duncan is getting to the point where she could use my help with more things around the house, and though I love you and I love this blog, my first and most important duty is to my family.
I'll keep you posted, and I promise not to disappear entirely. After all, things are just getting good.
