    He's just desperate to raise his approval numbers from their habitual depths.

    Nothing he's been able to do has moved the needle very much for very long. A disapproval rating around 50% and an approval rating in the thirties (with occasional dips into the twenties) has been the norm.

    No one likes him and if the Dems can put up a decent candidate who can raise money, it's hard to see him getting re-elected, short of another wave election.

    And the only way the RPOFL gets rid of him in a primary is if they find another self funder.
